Alaska Black Cod, also known as Sablefish, is harvested in the deep waters of the Gulf of Alaska using hook and line. Black Cod is caught throughout Alaska and along the West Coast. Fishermen who target Black Cod often fish for halibut at the same time since both species are caught using the same gear, but usually at different depths.
Black Cod has a high oil content and is prized for it’s rich buttery flavor that lends well to baking or broiling. Sable fish is also great barbecued, consider using a marinade or teriyaki sauce to add additional flavor.
