Kodiak fisherman harvest several species of Rockfish including Black, Dusky, Rougheye, and Shortraker. Alaska Rockfish have a flaky white flesh that is surprisingly sweet with a mild taste. Rockfish are often compared to Snapper in both flavor and texture. These rockfish are individually caught by small boat fishermen who use individual hook and line gear to work the rock piles around Kodiak Island. Once caught, rockfish is quickly iced to preserve flavor and freshness resulting in a high quality product.
